DESCRIPTION:Atmospheric Scientist and Director of the Climate Science Center at Texas Tech University \nFree and open to the public. \nForecasting Our Future: Climate Change and Extreme Weather \nKatharine Hayhoe is an atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on developing and applying high-resolution climate projections to understand what climate change means for people and the natural environment. She is a professor at Texas Tech University and directs its Climate Science Center. She served as lead author on the Second\, Third and Fourth National Climate Assessments. \nHayhoe also is attempting to bridge the gap between scientists and Christians – work she does in part because she’s a Christian herself. She’s been named as one of Christianity Today’s 50 Women to Watch and hosts the PBS digital series “Global Weirding: Climate\, Politics and Religion.” \nShe has received the American Geophysical Union’s Climate Communication Prize\, the Stephen Schneider Climate Communication Award and been named to a number of lists\, including Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People\, Foreign Policy’s 100 Leading Thinkers and Fortune magazine’s World’s Greatest Leaders. \nHayhoe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from the University of Toronto and an M.S. and Ph.D. in atmospheric science from the University of Illinois.

Each day’s programming will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. \n\n\nThe Gulf Coast Water Conservation Symposium provides water utilities and other organizations interested in water management and conservation with the information needed to implement successful water conservation programs\, effectively engage customers\, and plan for the future. This year’s symposium is focused on case studies and tools to help attendees identify challenges and solutions for successfully managing water as an integrated resource. \n\nTickets are $25 for General Admission. Students\, teachers\, and faculty receive discounted rate of $10. CEUs will be offered through self-reporting for architects and engineers. Additional credits are pending approval for water professionals through the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). \nThis event will welcome recognized national and state experts for a full day of learning and engagement.
